Medsmart

From the January 2018 through the middle of the year, I worked on MedSmart.  MedSmart is a 2d sidescrolling adventure game prototype focused on tackling the opioid epidemic.  The game targets high school students and tries to teach them about proper ways for handling, taking, and disposing of medications.

I was the sole developer on the project and worked closely with a 2D artist that created all of the game's stunning artwork.  The primary challenge I faced with this game was creating a pipeline that allowed the artist to work in an environment they are comfortable in (in this case, Photoshop) and still make the process of getting into game somewhat reasonable.  This was achieved through a mixture of Photoshop export scripts, and Unity's sprite sheet and 2D tile systems. The end result was a near close to exact realization of the artist's original vision in engine.

In the end, the prototype spanned 5 chapters and features numerous environments, quests, conversations, cutscenes, characters wrapped around simple platforming and puzzle solving.
